Welcome to Tess Cooling Calligraphy

Tess is an artist who specialises in Religious and Spiritual calligraphy. She illustrates words of inspiration, verses or quotations. These come from a wide variety of sources such as poetry, scriptures and speeches - or any words that simply hold special meaning for people.

She creates individual pieces, working on heavily textured watercolour paper and employing techniques such as embossing, gold leaf and illumination in her work. Many of her pieces are available as hand finished, limited edition prints starting from £75 for smaller pieces. Her pieces can be ordered framed or unframed as required.

Her work is often reminiscent of illuminated manuscripts, inspired by Celtic and medieval art, although she has a diversity which produces some very contemporary pieces which are equally beautiful.

"I am interested in depicting all forms of faith and spiritual belief. I enjoy painting, lettering and illustrating verses from a variety of sources and  from dedications of life, peace, love and nature."

Tess works from her studio at home in Monmouth. Every piece is designed painted and finished exclusively by her.
